AN/APQ-181
(United States)
This 2-dimensional surface-search radar was developed specifically for the B-2 Spirit bomber. This represented a unique challenge, as the Spirit’s shape precluded a traditional radome; and; the radar itself had to reliably operate in a LPI (low probability of intercept) mode.
Many details are obviously classified, but it is known that the radar has search, terrain avoidance, and targeting modes. The antenna is a bar fitted in the leading edge of the B-2’s fuselage.
