Notes: This active/passive sonar is carried by the Upholder class submarines. It was not entirely well-liked by the RN and the final two Upholders were to have the Type 2075 which was cancelled, all four were hence completed with Type 2040. The RN planned to replace the sonar with the Type 2076 during the first overhauls of the class however they were decommissioned in 1994.

The Type 2040 can track 48 targets at once. Estimated ranges are 22NM active and 25NM passive. In Canadian service, they are integrated with the SQR-501 CANTASS passive towed array.
