Notes: The AN/SPN-12 was a hand-operated CCA radar used on American carriers during the Cold War. It was mounted aft of the island about 20’ above the flight deck. It was used to give an exact reading on a landing plane’s airspeed relative to the carrier as it approached the flight deck. The operator kept it trained on the landing plane via an iron ring gunsight.
