Fairchild Dornier Do-228

Transferred from the original encyclopedia

The Do 228 is a development of Dornier's earlier Do 28 and Do 128. The type retains the fuselage cross section of the earlier aircraft but introduces a new supercritical wing and AlliedSignal turboprop engines. Most Do 228 operators use the aircraft in the utility transport role. India and Thailand's 228's are configured for maritime patrol. India's aircraft are fitted with a MEL Marec II search radar while the Royal Thai Navy's use the Bendix 1500 radar. One of the Indian aircraft has been fitted with an Israeli Elta EL/M 2022A (V3) radar and after trialing this new outfit an order has been placed to fit all the aircraft with the same.
