Project 1893 Katun and 1993 Katun II class YFB
(USSR)
Notes: These large fireboats (PS/”poharnoye sudno”) are equipped with six monitors. In addition to firefighting, they were expressly designed for wartime decontamination of anchored ships and shore facilities; as such they are NBC sealed and have full NBC warfare clothing for the crew, Geiger counters, chemical warfare detectors, etc. Unlike most other Soviet yard craft they have no towing ability, being dedicated solely to the firefighting mission. Although intended for yard use they are capable of open-ocean navigation.
The final four units (Project 1993) are slightly larger and wider; and are sometimes called the Katun II class. All were built at Srednyy Nava Zavod yard in Kolpino during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
