Notes: Difficult to classify, this singleton class was too slow to be a frigate, to large to be a patrol cutter, and too heavily armed to be an icebreaker. Purga was actually laid down as part of the 1938 defense budget, but delayed because of WWII. Capable of heavy icebreaking, Purga spent her entire career as part of the KGB Maritime Border Patrol in the arctic. After the breakup of the USSR, the new Russian Coast Guard had no interest in the ship and Purga was scrapped.
