Ikara
(Australia)
Notes: This ASW missile is similar in concept to the Soviet “Silex” and French Malafon. Entering service in 1963, it was a level-flight missile that carried a torpedo (either the American Mk44 or Mk46) to a predetermined point, where it was dropped. A unique feature was that the Ikara continued flying on a course away from the drop point, so that the noise of the crashing airframe wouldn’t disturb the torpedo’s seeker.
The launcher and magazine took up a rather large amount of space and weight. It has now been retired by all users.
